In 2002-2007 Karen Bach studied at the Danish Academy of Rhythmic Music in Copenhagen. Since then she has worked as a pianist, composer and arranger of her own and other people’s projects, including Three Trios, the electropop quartet Next to Beluga and the New York trio Bach/Froman/Gregor as well as the Karen Bach Trio, with which she has toured and issued three albums. Secret Rooms (2010) developed into the Visual Reality project, in which Karen Bach arranged new music for a large orchestra and developed a series of visuals in collaboration with the illustrator Karen Hemmingsen.

Biography

Karen Bach was born in 1981 in the Silkeborg area. She started to play the piano at the age of five, and in 2000 she travelled to New York, where she was accepted at The Collective School of Music, with the piano as her main instrument. The drummer and professor at Berklee College of Music Ian Froman became her teacher, and later her colleague on her own projects, tours and recordings. They have done concerts together in Denmark, Sweden and USA.

In addition, Karen Bach is a freelance study and theatre musician, house artist and teacher. She has been on the executive committee of the IMPRA musician network, has done music for the New York underground theatre play Garbo’s Dreams and received work grants from the Danish Agency for Culture, DJBFA and the Danish Arts Foundation.

Scholarship from the Léonie Sonning Music Foundation

Karen Bach has received a scholarship of DKK 60,000.
The scholarship is to be used for a study trip to New York as well as composition and the developing of her latest project for trio and orchestra.
