Léonie Sonning Talent Prize 2013
In 2006, Magnus Fryklund began to study piano under Bengt Anderson, cello under Per Helders and composition under Sven David Sandström at the Academy of Music in Falun, Sweden. In 2010, he gained entry to The Royal Danish Academy of Music, where he studied under Amalie Malling, and the following year he applied for the Giordano Bellincampi Soloist Class in orchestral conducting. He has been a prizewinner in the Steinway Piano Competition in Stockholm and performed as a soloist and chamber player in concerts in Sweden, Denmark and Germany.
Biography
Magnus Fryklund was born in Karlstad, Sweden, in 1990. He began playing the piano at the age of ten, and started on the cello two years later. On several occasions he has conducted the academy of music’s choir and baroque ensemble. At the age of 17, he was appointed chorus master at the Wermland Opera in Karlstad, and at the age of 18 he was soloist and conductor in Mozart’s 24th piano concerto with the Karlstad Symphony Orchestra.

During his studies, he has taken part in a number of master classes and courses with, among others, Luiz de Moura Castro, Helmut Deutsch, Andreas Schmidt, Malcolm Bilson, Hilary Hahn, Christian Poltéra, Kungsbacka Pianotrio, Konstantin Bogino, Hans Pålsson, Per Tengstrand and Mats Widlund. Magnus Fryklund has been awarded several scholarships, such as the Swedish Chamber Music Association scholarship together with the piano trio Trio Artis, the Bifrost Order Cultural Scholarship and Mai von Rosens Ungdomsstipendium.
Forthcoming activities
Soloist and conductor with The Copenhagen Philharmonic (March 2013) Performer at The Royal Danish Academy of Music’s festival Beethoven and the Piano 3 in Tivoli Concert Hall (May 2013). Composer at concerts/workshops with the Southern Jutland Symphony Orchestra, Odense Symphony Orchestra, Aalborg Symphony Orchestra, The Copenhagen Philharmonic and Aarhus Symphony Orchestra.
Scholarship from the Léonie Sonning Music Foundation
Magnus Fryklund has received a scholarship of DKK 60,000.
The scholarship is to be used to take part in master classes with the conductors Jorma Panula and Neeme Järvi. Magnus Fryklund also wishes to continue to study piano under Hans Pålsson in Malmö.
